The Christian’s Meat

As once of old at Sextus dawn
In Eden’s Garden green
with leaf of tree and seed in fruit
Thou didst Thy creatures feed

Green herbs for meat, each were supplied
All beasts and birds and flies.
God to all men and women gave
Domain o’er Earth and Sky

But as our parents did of old
In sin, took that Wise Tree
Thus God contemned their soiled ground
With thorns and sweat, they’d eat

Then when The Lord his judgment made
All Earthen land to flood
Thru wind and storm all Noah’s came
With rainbow promised good

Still Wisdom’s debt her payment took
God sacrifice did need
Adam and Eve’s mistakes remain
Whilst fleshly children feed

But God in grace His mercy shewed
In sending us His Son
Who living was the Bread of Life
By dying our work o’ercome

Oh grant thy faithful here below
in truth and love to meet
above beside Thy crystal stream
Beneath Life’s healing leaves in Peace.
