The Loyalist Mind

The Loyalist Mind

From Albion’s white cliffed shore
And Angle’s heath filled plain
They followed Cabot’s sea soaked path
To virgin woods, wild beast’s domain

St. George’s cross they bore
Across the murky deep
Old England’s banner they held high
On rocky shore of James’ creek

Still others came of prayerful mind
And friends with Squanto made
Their harvest feast of bounty shared
As kindly they behaved

Soon settlements along the coast
For God and King were named
Virginia, Jamestown, Georgia too
All spoke of whence they came

Each Colony and Province blessed
With bounty from God’s hand
Did goods supply by laden ship
To thank dear Motherland

In time some did regret
That they from England came
And took upon themselves to make
A State in their own name

But honest souls and faithful true
To God and King proclaimed
That British they’d remain
Though tempests rose and fires were flamed

An Englishman did know full well
That God His plan would work
And righteous was the path in truth
To ne’er King’s duty shirk

In time each fiery grievance made
the Parliament addressed
In peaceful end did come out best
For all who were distressed

So needless was the rebels call
For fight ‘gainst tyranny
And Britain’s glory grew undimmed
From sea to shining sea

May we of Cabot’s land now say
Judge not us for our rebel scene,
And by St.George and Britain’s day
God Bless and Save The Queen!
